What is Supported Independent Living?

Supported Independent Living (known as SIL) is disability support services funded by the National Disability Insurance Scheme. It enables you to access a support worker who can assist you with daily life tasks, such as taking care of your hygiene, shopping for groceries, cooking meals, keeping your home clean and tidy. This helps you live in the community and achieve an independent life.

If you are an NDIS participant, you may be eligible to receive SIL while living on your own, or with your family. Many people, though, receive SIL while living in a shared home with other participants. This gives you an opportunity to access support while being part of an inclusive household. You can develop valuable skills, grow confidence in everyday life, and be safe in the community.
